Vision to reach the people of India

In 2006, Samuel and a team of like-minded individuals founded Serve India in answer to a call: to equip 20,000 national pastors in India for evangelism and church planting. Samuel is widely known simply as “Ebey.”

From his early days as a young missionary in North India to his work as General Director for a major missions organization, Ebey has more than 30 years of experience serving the Lord in India:

Ministry Experience

  • 2006-present—Serve India Ministries, Founder and Director
  • 1997-2006—Gospel for Asia, General Director: Coordinated GFA church planting ministries in India and 5 other Asian countries; developed a national missionary training curriculum and established more than 100 training centers; led expansion of radio ministry from 13 to 92 language broadcasts; instrumental in starting Bridge of Hope, a child development outreach.
  • 1982-1997—Trans World Radio-India: Targeted university students with the Gospel through radio broadcasting, with eventual appointment as Executive Director.
  • 1977-1982—Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB): Completed cross-cultural missions training and other studies.

Education

  • Ongoing work toward Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree, BILD International
  • Master of Arts (M.A.) in English Literature, University of Madras
  • Bachelor in Divinity (B.D.), Senate of Serampore College (founded by William Carey)
  • Diploma in Mission Studies (Dip. M.S.), cross-cultural missions training

 Family

  • Ebey and his wife, Angeline, have 2 children
  • The Samuels live in Tamil Nadu, India

I remember the day a postcard arrived in the mail from a man who described himself as a professional murderer. Now I’m getting mail from assassins? I was a young missionary in North India with my wife and baby girl in those days.

“I heard about Jesus Christ for the first time through your radio program,” the man wrote. “He has changed my life. Now I want to change my profession.”

When I read those words, I literally jumped up and down for joy. In that moment, something deeply significant happened in my heart as I made a lifelong commitment to bring the name of Jesus—no matter the cost—to the people of India.

Throughout my years of serving the Lord, this commitment has become a burning passion.

Today, India stands at the crossroads as more than 600 million people seek a way out of oppressive socio-economic and religious structures. Where will they turn? In the words of Isaiah the prophet, they are the poor, the imprisoned, the blind, and the oppressed. They are the harvest ready to be gathered into the storehouse of God.
